Discussion - Beginning with NASA Earth Science Data Practices

A few years ago, the NASA Earth Science Data System’s Citizen Science Data Working Group published a White Paper that still stands as one of the most useful guidance documents for navigating NASA citizen science data issues. Pick a section to read in advance (or read the whole thing!) and join a breakout room to discuss.

Section 1: Policy, Ethics, and Legal Issues (p. 6-12)

Section 2: Standards (p. 13-25)

Section 3: Usability and Notifications (p. 26-32)

Section 4: Long-term Archival (p. 34-45)

When we gather on October 14, we will discuss the following questions:

  • What are the core needs of projects across the divisions - Earth Science, Heliophysics, Planetary Science, Astrophysics, and Biological and Physical Sciences - that we want to address in our primer?

  • What issues or angles of broad relevance have emerged since this white paper was written?

  • What new resources have been released in recent years that might help to address data challenges for NASA citizen science projects?

  • What resources do you recommend to help your colleagues manage citizen science data in their projects?
