Laura Trouille, Vice President of Science Engagement and Zooniverse Principal Investigator at The Adler Planetarium, joined us to share new functionality of the Zooniverse platform. She also discussed some ways that Zooniverse projects are adjusting to work with the explosion of Artificial Intelligence/ machine learning tools becoming available. Among the Zooniverse improvements she described are:

  1. a few project builder updates

  2. new group engagement features (tracking and celebrating collective impact)

  3. new student service hours certificates

  4. public roll-out of a translations interface

  5. mobile app updates and

  6. improved data exports/analysis support.

Laura also gave us a preview of a series of AI Ethics Workshops that Zooniverse will host this Spring through this Fall. The workshops will gather researchers, ethicists, legal experts, Zooniverse volunteers, and project leads to generate a set of recommendations relevant to the use of AI in Zooniverse and beyond.
