Crises such as COVID-19 often go hand in hand with the need for new data. They also generate opportunities to channel interest across “the crowd” to contribute to solutions, and inspire us all with the ways our projects can make a difference at critical times.

NASA has incredible assets that could be useful in a crisis: observation systems, engagement platforms, data technologies, and volunteer communities, just to name a few. Even outside of crises, there is much we can learn from those on the front lines about how to be nimble, creative, and reliable when presented with an opportunity to make a big difference in a short period of time.

This panel convenes leading practitioners who have addressed daunting challenges with creativity and rigor to mobilize collective knowledge in the face of uncertainties. We’ll celebrate successes, and will also dig into planning in light of challenges such as tight timelines, safety concerns, and the intersections of science and action.
